Modern women including lawyers and accountants face a myriad of challenges. From juggling work and family commitments to battling gender-based prejudices, we are constantly faced with the herculean task of proving ourselves while meeting expectations from those around us.

In the aggressive yet dynamic professional world, there are many challenges that women lawyers and accountants face. How comfortable are you with rounding up your potential business contacts for post-office hours drinking sessions? Is it second nature to you to invite your clients to the Grand Prix to revel in the adrenalin fueled world of fast-moving cars while talking business? How can you, as a woman lawyer or accountant, be taken seriously?

In this session, we will explore amongst other things: (a) the importance of business development so that women can move the needle on gender equality; (b) obstacles that women face in business development; (c) how women can do business development in a way that works for them; and (d) the strengths which women have that can be leveraged on in business development. How feasible are they in the context of lawyering and accounting, especially given that ours is ultimately a service industry?

Participants will also have the opportunity to pick up life tips and hacks from fellow women who have been through some of these challenges. Take the chance to not only build contacts but to also share and learn from others’ experiences. The panel discussion will be conducted under Chatham House Rules.
